1. Cuba
Thanks to food embargos between the country and the United States, Cuban kitchens often lack common vegetables and spices that many people crave in their dishes. As a result, Cuban food - apart from classics like sandwiches - has disappointed countless travelers over the years.
2. Bahamas
More than one traveler commented on the lack of tasty food during recent trips to the Bahamas. "Beautiful place, but we were expecting fresh, scrumptious seafood dinners," says one recent vacationer. "Instead, we ate a lot of canned goods. It was boring and tasteless food, for the most part." At least the crystal-clear water and white sand beaches are a consolation.
3. Costa Rica
While there is nothing bland about Costa Rica's surroundings - the country is filled with everything from breathtaking mountains to beaches and jungles - the same cannot be said about the cuisine. Many travelers think Costa Rican food is bland, flavorless, and different from what they expected. This could result from the country primarily being known for its street food scene, where food standards are understandably lower.
4. Chile
Are you a fan of mayonnaise? Then look no further than Chile, a mayo-lovers paradise! But, of course, your visit will be hell on Earth if you're not a fan of mayonnaise. "They have absolutely nothing to offer in cuisine," reveals one woman.
"Outside big cities, I swear it's all hot dogs and sandwiches. They drown everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, in mayo. And I LOVE MAYO. It's horrible what they've done to me. Will need some therapy." (OK, settle down, drama queen.)
5. Brazil
The people have spoken: Brazil is the home of mediocre food, with a lone bright spot. "The barbecue in the south is good, but in general, the food is very mediocre," reveals one traveler. "There's a serious lack of spices and flavor, and I'm not a fan of everything slathered in mayonnaise." Oh, look, another country obsessed with mayo! South America is wild, man.
6. Philippines
There's so much to love about the Philippines - from the beaches to the temperature to the inexpensive way of life, it's no surprise that millions visit the country annually. In a classic case of "you get what you pay for," many travelers admit they found Philippines food completely underwhelming, noting that in most dishes, everything is overly sweet - to the point of being inedible.
7. Morocco
The proper seasoning of a prepared dish is paramount for a tasty meal. Unfortunately, chefs in Morocco haven't gotten the message yet! Traveler after traveler laments that Moroccan cuisine consistently lacks a fundamental ingredient: Salt. This tidbit of information bums me out.
8. Norway
While naturally beautiful, cuisine in Norway leaves a lot to be desired - especially when you factor in higher prices that are prevalent throughout the region. "After several visits, I have to say Norway has the most disappointing cuisine I've ever had," expresses one man.
"There are some highlights, but decent restaurants are few and far between. Even as a Swede, I must say that food culture is abysmal. Not to mention the prices are sky high."
9. Poland
Don't get me wrong; there are plenty of delicious food options when traveling to Poland. However, plenty of travelers admit they were overwhelmed by the carbohydrate-centric dishes. As it turns out, more people enjoy eating fresh fruit and vegetables overseas than I ever imagined!
10. Cambodia
While the country has a reputation for quality Thai-inspired dishes, most travelers are disappointed when they get a chance to partake. Compared to other Thai cuisines, Cambodia's food lacks the bold flavors and clean taste that usually is found in quality Thai dishes found in neighboring regions.
