Cooking doesn't have to be hard. In fact, there are many simple tricks that can make it easier and even more fun. Here are 10 easy cooking hacks that lots of people love to use. These handy tips can save you time, cut down on mess, and make your food taste even better. So, let's get cooking! AUTHOR: Chris Phelan

1. A Quick Fix for Bland Food

Upon realizing your meal is underseasoned, most people attempt to rectify the situation by adding an abundance of salt. However, if that fails to improve the taste, you still have another option! "If your food is bland even though you've added salt, then it's missing acidity," explains one woman. "Lemon juice, lime juice, or vinegar are easy additions."

2. An Easy Way To Re-Fluff Rice

Preparing too much rice is a common kitchen practice resulting in many leftovers! When enjoying next-day rice, place an ice cube in the center of your leftovers before you microwave it, ensuring your rice will return to its former soft and fluffy glory.

3. A Helpful Sautéeing Tip

While recipes are invaluable in the kitchen, you don't always have to be burdened by the process. When it comes to specific instructions, it's best to ignore them.

"If a recipe says to sauté onions and garlic together at the same time, don't do it!" exclaims one home chef. "Do the onions first, and then add the garlic when the onions are just about done. Garlic can be over sautéed and takes on a bitter flavor."

4. Keep Your Cutting Board From Slipping

If your cutting board has a habit of sliding out from underneath your hands as you prep fruits and veggies, there's a way to make the cutting process more stable! A damp paper towel placed under your cutting board will prevent it from slipping as you prep.

5. How To Save the Veggies

With most vegetables, losing water means they lose much of the taste and flavor that make them so versatile. Luckily, there's a foolproof method to save veggies that have had better days. "Revive veggies that have lost their water by cutting their edges and soaking them in cold water," advises one man. "Lettuce, carrots, and celery will be crisp again."

6. Pull the Cookies Out Early

On behalf of everyone who enjoys perfectly undercooked cookies right out of the oven, I insist everybody pull their cookies out of the oven a few minutes early. By doing so, you'll be rewarded with the gooiest, most delicious cookies you've ever had in your life! Seriously: If you are baking your cookies to the exact time the recipe mandates, you're doing it all wrong.

7. The Soy Sauce Hack

Home chefs know soy sauce is one of their cupboards' most versatile and delicious ingredients. So don't be afraid to use it. "I use soy sauce in many stews and soups to help bring out savory flavors," reveals one woman. "My minestrone, for instance, usually has some soy sauce in it."

8. Invest in Quality Knives

You do yourself no favors if you don't invest in quality cutting tools. Not only will your cuts be more precise when prepping and cutting ingredients, but you'll be less likely to accidentally injure yourself due to subpar tools.

9. Don’t Be Afraid to Microwave Broccoli

According to many food experts, microwaving broccoli is the most efficient and nutritional way to cook broccoli! Cooking the vegetable in the microwave preserves many nutrients that would otherwise become lost by roasting or pan-frying.

10. Don’t Forget To Prep Everything at Once

One of the most essential home cooking hacks is simply prep everything at once. Getting 100% of your prep out of the way lets you focus on the task at home: Creating the most delicious meal possible. In addition, it's easy to forget to add certain ingredients if you decide to prep them later.
